Will’s Holiday Whiskey List

If you’re on the hunt for a gift for a true whiskey connoisseur, SpringHouse’s resident bar manager Will Abner has handpicked a few fine favorites that fit the bill.

“Finished” whiskeys, which are simply whiskeys aged in a traditional cask, then finished in a non-traditional cask, like the ones used to age sherry. The special finishing imparts new, different characteristics to the whiskey – and adds an element of fun and discovery for those of us who enjoy them!

Most of Will’s favorite finished whiskeys hail from Scotland, but he prizes two Kentucky bourbons, as well. Choose one for your favorite connoisseur, or treat yourself!

1. Auchentoshan Three Wood: Aged in bourbon barrels, then sherry, then Pedro Ximenez casks.

1. Glenmorangie: Several choices, including Nectar d’Or, aged in Sauternes casks; Lasanta, aged in Sherry casks; Quinta Ruban, aged in Port casks.

3. Angel’s Envy: Technically, it’s a port-finished bourbon. They also have a great rum-finished rye.
