The Prettiest Land in Alabama

Published: 08.08.2019

Design enhances Pitchford Hollow beauty

We are going to go out on a limb here. We think the property along Pitchford Hollow on Lake Martin is the most beautiful land in Alabama. Let’s start with the fact that the land touches Lake Martin, the only lake to receive the designation of “Treasured Alabama Lake.”

You might ask, “That beauty applies to nearly 900 miles of shoreline on Lake Martin, so what makes Pitchford Hollow so beautiful?” We would respond by saying that Pitchford Hollow is a lake within a lake. The shoreline is long and clean and relatively flat (for Lake Martin). But it is the land along this beautiful cove that makes it so special. It has rolling hills that are literally covered with acres and acres of mature trees.

While much of the shoreline of Lake Martin has stands of handsome pine forest, both the southern (Willow Glynn) and northern (The Willows) shores of Pitchford Hollow have abundant stands of mature hardwoods. That means there is a lot of new growth in the spring and loads of color to enjoy in the fall. The blending of undulating hills falling to the water graced with mature forest makes this land, in our opinion, the prettiest land in Alabama.

Careful development

In 2008, we released the first collection of waterfront and water-access homesites in this new neighborhood called Willow Glynn. We used Willow because this is part of the Willow Point community and Glynn because of the beautiful forest along the shoreline. Prior to our creating homesites, only humble Russell rental cabins were tucked along the water’s edge.

One of the things those Russell rental cabin tenants said they loved is the way the trees’ branches reach over the roads to touch, creating a canopy. We worked hard to keep that look and were successful by reducing grading and road widths and protecting tree roots with hand-placed stone walls. We think we enhanced the look as opposed to damaging nature.

Willow Glynn was a successful development, selling out despite a serious real estate recession. While the land is beautiful, we think the houses are beautiful as well. We believe this neighborhood is one of the best examples of consistent design standards on the lake. It gave us a new standard for a model lake neighborhood.

We decided to expand to the northern shoreline in 2017 and worked to release The Willows in 2018. We were blessed with beautiful land and design criteria, so all we had to do was follow our own good example. Our release of 27 new waterfront homesites was successful. We have already been able to give 15 new owners an opportunity to enjoy this locale.

Unspoiled plans for the future

We have tried hard not to spoil what we have been blessed with in this area. Currently, we are working on plans to add new opportunities to own a piece of this beautiful place. An example of what life is like in this “prettiest of places” can be seen this September. The Birmingham Home & Garden 2019 Inspiration Home embodies the best of Lake Martin and Alabama, with beautiful design and décor on full display. The home will be open August 30–September 29, Thursdays–Sundays, 10am–5pm, with ticket sales supporting Children’s Harbor. Purchase tickets here >

We have exciting plans for The Willows and Pitchford Hollow. Please reach out to Rhonda Watson or Emily McDaniel at 256.215.7011 to stay informed.
