New Russell Cabins Announced

Published: 10.24.2019

Popular cabins will soon be available in The Willows!

We have two versions of the Russell Cabin. The first, and original, is the famous, rustic, humble rental cabins that dot the “undeveloped” shoreline of Russell property. The second version is the larger and more modern cabins that are purposely built for sale.

Historically, the idea of buying a Russell Cabin fired the imagination of Lake Martin lovers. But an investment in a lake home comes with higher expectations of size, features and finishes than what is acceptable in a rental cabin. Modern kitchens, modern heating and cooling systems, well-detailed master suites, and plenty of guest suites are routine requests for the “for sale” cabins.

The humble Russell Cabin of yesteryear

While cabins ownership comes with upgraded interior features, the rustic feel, large wooded lots and expansive outdoor living spaces are not negotiable in either version. Potential owners want the best of both worlds. The “for sale” cabins became the perfect blend of quiet lake life, in the same beautiful outdoor setting found in the “rental cabins” along with all the interior comforts of a top of the line lake home.

Popularity of ownership model grows

In the mid-2000s, we built four larger, more modern rental cabins in Nichols Cove. We built the cabins and signed five-year leases with the initial tenants with the option to renew. As the renewals approached, several of the tenants approached us about buying their cabin. At the same time, potential property owners gave us a “wish list” for a lake home. It turns out that the four “new” rental cabins had the features many potential owners wanted.

Rather than sign renewals, we agreed to sell these four cabins, and they, along with six additional custom cabins, were snapped up!

This happened quickly and during a deep recession, so it was clear that there was demand for this property type. We added 16 lots in Rose Point adjacent to Nichols Cove and then added property in The Ridge, just for the new cabin-style lake home. Now, a few years and over 60 custom cabins later, it occurs to us that we might be onto something!

Expansion to The Willows

Russell Cabins have been a part of Pitchford Hollow (now developed into The Willows) for a long time. Given that history, it makes sense that we designate a section of this new Willow Point neighborhood as the newest site of the modern cabins.

While most of The Willows has been designated for traditional custom lake homes, we created the perfect enclave for eight waterfront homesites and four water-access homesites just for cabins. The waterfront lots are relatively flat with wonderful views. The water-access lots are situated in front of a beautiful park and a trail access to dedicated piers.

With the beautiful setting, proximity to Willow Point and an updated library of home plans, we think it is one of our best cabin ownership opportunities to date. For availability, release dates, review of house plans and other questions you might have, please give one of our Realtors®, Rhonda Watson or Emily McDaniel, a call today at 256.215.7011.
