Mix This Now: Rye Me A River

Looking for a new classic cocktail to serve this holiday season? SpringHouse Restaurant Bar Manager, Will Abner, offers a primer on bitters – and a recipe for a tasty rye cocktail.

Bitters add distinct flavor and dimension to classic cocktails like Manhattans and Old Fashioneds. Tried and true bitters brands include Angostura, Peychaud’s and Reagan’s Orange. The resurgence of classic cocktails has also inspired a new generation of boutique bitters companies, including Bittermen’s, 1821 Bitters, and the Fee Brothers.

For the holidays, we’ve paired the powerful spice of rye with the Fee Brothers special rhubarb bitters, which provide a beautiful floral complement. Mix up a Rye Me A River for family and friends and raise a glass to happy holidays!

Rye Me A River
2 oz. Bulleit Rye
.5 oz. brown sugar syrup
.5 tsp. lemon juice
2 dashes Fee Brothers Rhubarb Bitters

Stir all ingredients. Serve on the rocks and garnish with a lemon twist.
