Road work on Phase 3 ahead of schedule

While most people have been either focused on the holidays or huddled up for the winter, our road-building crews have been busy here at Lake Martin. Trees have been cleared, and rights-of-way have been established for the much-anticipated third and final phase of waterfront homesites on the Wicker Point peninsula.

This peninsula lies wholly in The Heritage and is ideally suited for a beautiful collection of large and relatively level waterfront homesites. The Heritage design criteria and its amenities provides a dazzling collection of waterfront homesites on Lake Martin.

Clearly, prospective waterfront property owners agree that the properties and the golf club are impressive at The Heritage. To date, 84 waterfront properties have been released over the last 18 months. All but five of those properties have been sold, with the first homeowners already enjoying their new lake homes.

About The Heritage

The Heritage is part of Russell Lands on Lake Martin, a master-planned collection of waterfront communities with nearly 25,000 acres of land and 300 miles of shoreline on Alabama’s only Treasured Lake. When first selected for development in 2019, this property was a 1,500-acre forest with 12 miles of shoreline. What has occurred since that time has been a coordinated effort to create one of the finest lakefront developments in the country.

The centerpiece of the community and amenity package is the private Wicker Point Golf Club, home to a new Coore & Crenshaw-designed golf course. The club, which opened in the fall of 2023, has already garnered rave reviews from the Robb Report (recognized as one of the top 12 private clubs in the U.S.), Golf Digest (2nd runner-up to the best new private club in the U.S.), and from its members.

Lakefront homesites in The Heritage are special. Phases 1 through 3 are located on the Wicker Point peninsula, a very distinctive peninsula in the center of Lake Martin’s 880 miles of shoreline. While the golf course is not actually on the Wicker Point peninsula, it is built on adjacent waterfront property entirely within The Heritage’s 1,500 acres. This is important, because the peninsula is just wide enough to provide for large homesites (over an acre in size with more than 270 feet of shoreline on average) each with tremendous views.

 

The Benjamin Lake Club

While the golf club is private, another amenity, The Benjamin Lake Club, is available to all property owners in The Heritage. The Benjamin is the only waterfront lake club on Lake Martin, with a pool complex, fitness, tennis, pickleball, snack bar, and community gathering spaces. Construction is well underway on this facility which is scheduled to open in June of 2025.

Release date for Phase 3

Scheduling a road-building project is a difficult process. Weather has tremendous impact on how a project may proceed, especially in the wet winter and spring seasons. However, since road crews have already accomplished so much, we feel that we can release properties for sale this spring rather than mid-summer as was the case with Phases 1 and 2.

Since the standard design criteria is to produce large waterfront homesites, Phase 3 will offer no more than 30 properties. The properties will average more than 1.2 acres in size with 270 feet of shoreline. Expansive views over large spans of the lake will be available to the west, north, east, and south. Additionally, there are also homesites located in protected coves.

The topography of the lots will provide for a mixture of home styles and house placements. Like all of The Heritage, design and construction can be beautifully accomplished by our approved architects, designers, and home builders.
