Corey Smith & Moon Taxi Headline the Labor Day Weekend Concert

Published: 08.26.2014

Set a calendar reminder for Sunday, August 31. Grab your friends, the kids, blanket, and the cooler and join us for a true summer tradition: the Labor Day Weekend Concert at The Amp.

This year, two great acts share headline status: Corey Smith and Moon Taxi. Smith, a country singer songwriter from Jefferson, Georgia, not far from the music mecca of Athens, doesn’t tackle the usual country staples like trucks and boots in his music. Rather, he describes his music as reflective of what he’s experienced in his own “little town.”

Check out one of Corey’s recent hits, “Harmony.”

Moon Taxi, an American indie-progressive rock band based in Nashville, was founded in 2006 by Trevor Terndrup (vocals, guitar), Tommy Putnam (bass), Spencer Thomson (guitar, programming), Tyler Ritter (drums), and Wes Bailey (keys) while attending Belmont University. Their third album, Mountains Beaches Cities, represents exploration – searching both the world and themselves for new experiences.

Take a listen to their latest hit, “Morocco.”

Special guest, Tuscaloosa’s own college jam band, Mother Funk, opens the show. Gates open at 5 pm. Tickets are $25 and kids six and under are admitted FREE. Get your tickets now, and we’ll see you Sunday, August 31!
