As we approach the 10th annual Russell Forest Run, we thought it would be fun to look back at some of the comments we’ve received about the runs.

“We run all over the place, but, hands down, this is our favorite run…” —MP

“Course was well-marked and very challenging, particularly for those of us used to street races. After party had delicious food and beer. Overall, a great time! Well worth the 45-minute drive from Montgomery.” —KM

“Good organization and great long-sleeve technical shirt. Hilly course with nice views. About 35 minutes to drive from Prattville.” —KC

“This is my favorite run on the year. Very well organized, challenging course and the best after party!” —ND

“Well, it was my first 5K, and I fear all others will pale in comparison. The bar has been set mighty high! I loved the trails. Loved the after party. The horses running as we passed added so much, and hearing the birds in the forest was also a treat. Loved the weather, the people who cheered us on and the people who volunteered.” —SW

“That was ‘ba roo tul.’” (translation: brutal) —HG

“Very fun & absolutely well done!!! This was my first race in five years, and it was well worth the wait. I’m looking forward to making this a tradition!! (LOVED the printout after the race. First time seeing that at an event—which probably shows how long I’ve been away from the running world!) Thank you for a phenomenal experience.” —MP

“The area was absolutely beautiful. I couldn’t have imagined how incredible the forest would be, and the after party was nice. As for the run, I guess if would have known exactly how tough the inclines and declines were, I wouldn’t have done it. So glad I did it. May not put my body through that kinda pain again.” —Anonymous

There are a ton of other comments, but you get the gist. We have always wanted this run to be family friendly, somewhat challenging with a downhill finish; include a fun-filled after party; and, of course, raise money for the Alexander City Schools Education Foundation. So far, the Russell Forest Run is meeting these goals.

This year, the 10th Russell Forest Run will have a few changes. We have redesigned the awards to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the run. However, in keeping with tradition, the shirt is still a long-sleeve tech shirt that every runner will receive—both 5K and 10K—and the post-race party will feature live music from The Bank Walkers, our famous grits bar and other snacks, ice cold beer, juice, water, Powerade, hot chocolate and coffee! Please note, on the day of registration, the price will increase $10 per run, so register before 11:59pm on February 22 to save the 10 bucks. Regardless, this is a fundraiser, and $10 isn’t a real deal breaker.

Don’t miss this year’s event! It will be challenging, and it will be fun!
