Live specimens will be our guests as we take a close look at these two groupings and their amazing designs. We will discuss where they live, what they eat, and the role they play in the local Russell Forest ecosystem. Examples on hand will inspire you to appreciate the wild dramas being lived out all around us. Program includes live animals and is appropriate for all ages. No charge—everyone is welcome!

Guided Nature Tours

Moisture in Russell Forest
Saturday, May 28– 7am

Meet at Willow Point Cutoff Trailhead

Let’s get up and go! We will explore habitats influenced by damp soils and creeks during this slow-paced walk through the woods. As we move from one area to the next, the variety of flora and fauna specific to each region’s moisture content will be examined, discussed, and enjoyed! We never know what we will find but count on always finding a renewed spirit and a good time. This energetic hike will offer both learning and exercise. Appropriate for participants ages 5–105.

A Walk in the Shade
Saturday, June 11 – 3pm
Meet at Willow Point Cutoff Trailhead

For almost two hours, we will be in the woods identifying the variety of plant and animal life we discover. In addition to learning from the finds in the forest, we will examine a nearby creek and search for wet residents keeping cool in summer temperatures. This energetic hike will offer both learning and exercise. Insect repellent and sunscreen will be provided – bring your own drinking water and comfortable shoes. Relaxed pace. Appropriate for participants ages 5–105.

ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED! There is a $10 fee for these programs.

Please contact Naturalist Marianne at 256.496.2710 to inquire and to register in advance.
