New Russell Cabin Designs Unveiled

Kowaliga will have some exciting new options

Published: 02.20.2025

When asked, owners of the custom-built Russell Cabins will tell you that they love what they have at the lake. With plans that are created and built to embrace the lake lifestyle, these cabins rarely return to the market. To date, roughly 120 cabins have been built in our neighborhoods.

We recently announced an additional enclave of waterfront homesites for this special collection of built-for-sale cabins. We identified a beautiful, barely used cove of relatively level ground on the Kowaliga peninsula. This location, with its proximity to Kowaliga Marina, Kowaliga Restaurant, and Children’s Harbor, puts these new cabins at the heart of Lake Martin, geographically and emotionally.

With a new location, it made sense to create new cabin designs to offer prospective owners. Like our other cabin locations in Nichols Cove, Rose Point, The Ridge and The Willows, these cabins will be built by Russell Lands’ residential construction team at Classic Homes. Their program is to work with each purchaser to find the right cabin design, incorporate custom modifications and deliver a “turnkey” price on mutually agreed upon specifications. They handle everything—house, landscape, seawall, and pier. One only needs some food, furniture, and swimwear.

NEW CABINS

We already have a fairly extensive library of cabin designs built in the four cabin enclaves mentioned above. We are always looking for something new to offer. We were so excited about these new designs that we wanted to unveil them before our anticipated release in April. The new cabins are especially designed for this area, so we named them with inspiration from Hank Williams’s classic song “Kaw-Liga.” (Click here for the lyrics to “Kaw-Liga.”)

KNOTTY PINE

Hank was singing about observations of the “wooden Indian” at the old Kowaliga Restaurant. Hank noticed that the “Indian” was in love with an Indian maid but would not “let it show” because his heart was made of knotty pine. That is the perfect name of a cabin that is built with lots of pine!

Since the land at Kowaliga is as level as any you will find at Lake Martin, the designer, Bill Farshee, was able to create a one-story design with four bedroom suites and large open-concept space. There is ample covered living space to take advantage of the lake views and an optional outdoor cooking pavilion. (Click here to see the Knotty Pine – we think you’ll love it.)

CHOCTAW

The object of Kowaliga’s affection was a “Choctaw maid,” and we think that lots of people will be drawn to this Michael O’Kelley design as well. We think this is a perfect plan for multi-generational families. There are four bedroom suites—three are on the lake level, and the fourth is upstairs with a den to allow for younger family members to unwind after a day on the water. Like all Russell Cabins, this home has a focus on the family rooms and covered outdoor living on the lake. (Click here to see the Choctaw – we think you will be smitten too.)

ABOUT THE PROPERTY RELEASE

The property release will occur, most likely, in April. Interested customers will receive plats, price lists, and a plan portfolio. There will only be 11 waterfront homesites available in Phase 1, with nearly as many plans to choose from. Interested purchasers will be able to discuss the plans with the builder’s representative prior to making an offer on a property.
