Charity Poker Run a Huge Success!

Published: 07.22.2021

This past Saturday, July 17, Russell Marine presented the 18th annual Lions Lake Martin Charity Poker Run, and people were ready to go! It seems interest was extremely high, as 207 hands were sold and more than $23,000 was raised for local charities.

A huge “Thanks!” is due to all of those who participated, to those behind the scenes who worked to prepare for the event, to the Russell Craig Band who did an outstanding job at The Ridge Marina, and especially to Russell Marine. This event benefits the Alexander City Lions Club who, in turn, distribute the proceeds to charities touching lives right here in our local community. So, yes, your day of fun on the water makes a really big difference. Thank you!

The pent-up enthusiasm for this year’s Poker Run was palpable. Those competing for Best Crew seemed to be double the number of years past. And there were some great ones! “Lakestock,” the hippie boat, took the top prize followed by SpongeBob, “Teachers on a Toon,” and an honorable mention for “Maddie Strong.” As prize monies were increased this year, Lane Minor (pictured above) took home Best Hand honors and $2,000, while Andrew Annakin took the Worst Hand prize.
