Announcing a “Classic” Lake Home

Russell Lands builder starts first Willows lake home

The Willow Point community grew this year with the addition of The Willows of Willow Point. This addition came at the end of over two years of planning and road-building to add 27 new waterfront lots in its first phase.

The Willows lies on the north side of the very popular Pitchford Hollow slough and is accessed via a new entry off Willow Point Road. Pitchford Hollow is also the location for another Willow Point neighborhood, Willow Glynn at Willow Point.

As part of the planning for The Willows, Russell Lands wanted to continue as the trend-setter for lakefront home design. Well before road building began, we reached out to Scott Torode of Pfeffer Torode Architecture to create our new direction. Scott also designed the Classic Homes cabin that was selected as 2017 Lake House of the Year by Country Living magazine. Scott carefully studied the land and design trends in our communities and proposed a new design for The Willows.

Site Selection

As part of the design process, Scott requested a list of lots where a new design might be built. Given the gentle topography of The Willows and the beautiful mature trees, the selection became difficult—there were just too many good choices! We started with 27 lots. Topography narrowed that list down to roughly 20, and the size of lots narrowed the choice down to 15. Once the lots were released to the market, 10 lots sold very quickly for custom construction, so we were down to five or six choices.

We were fortunate that one property, Lot 11, was not sold and proved to be perfect for this design. The good news is that Lot 11 has some local history. A long-time Lake Martin family had their old “Russell Cabin” on this site. Anyone who knows anything about Russell Cabins knows that the best lots were the oldest cabin lots, so we were thrilled this lot was available.

Design Features

Site selection influenced Scott’s final design. Plan layout was reversed, the garage with guest apartment was detached slightly from the house, and the outdoor living space was configured for maximum lake views.

Scott’s design is an original design that blends the best of Lake Martin with a hint of the mountains. We believe that this design will set a new exciting example of refined lake life in The Willows. The two-story interior design allows the home to be used as a comfortable year-round home or as an upscale lake getaway. The main level provides spacious living, cooking, dining and owner spaces while the second level provides three bedrooms, three baths and a den. See larger renderings >
