Ahead of Schedule
New Russell Cabin area hits a key milestone

We like to start off the New Year with good news! Rarely in the construction world does a construction project manager start the conversation with, “We are ahead of schedule.” The scheduled work he was talking about was the road-building project that provides access to the much anticipated Russell Cabins at Kowaliga neighborhood.
Planning began years ago. Submittal to Elmore County and the State of Alabama DOT for approval occurred months ago. With only a couple of dry weather months available to our crews, we penciled in May 2025 as the earliest date we could possibly have paved roads in this neighborhood.
But we did have a very dry October and an unusually dry November, and our road crews were able to rough in the roads, bring in the first layer of base material, and will be finished with the storm drain installation this week—roughly one month ahead of schedule and, more importantly, before the full onset of the Alabama wet season.
Since we are ahead of schedule, we decided to erase the May date we had penciled in and put some graphite on paper with April as the earliest date we could complete the road building for this first phase of Russell Cabins at Kowaliga.
This new neighborhood will be home to the very popular “for sale” collection of custom-built cabins that have been so popular. Prior to bringing this lakefront home style to Kowaliga, Russell Lands’ construction company, Classic Homes, has built these in Nichols Cove, Rose Point, The Ridge, and The Willows. We have built roughly 120 cabins to date.
For those interested, the acquisition process is fairly straightforward. A potential owner selects a lot and then a cabin plan to determine the overall purchase price. After spending time with the Russell Lands/Classic Homes team to make customizations to the cabin design, a final turn-key price is determined, and the cabin is built as agreed upon with progress payments as work progresses. The Classic Homes team handles site prep, décor (as needed), cabin construction, landscaping, seawalls, and piers. Literally, the owner only needs to get furniture, stock the panty, and dock the boat!
Once roads are built, the selection and purchase process will begin. With roads finished sooner, cabin construction can be moved up as well. These cabins are designed so that an owner may have a legacy lake property. Waterfront package prices will begin over $2,000,000, as you would expect for this premier lake location.
